Issoufou Issaka teaches physical education (PE) and coaches volleyball at the West African level. He founded his own gym in Niamey after watching sedentary habits and chronic illness take hold among his colleagues. Training in Germany shaped his approach: he favours “sport for health” and technical ingenuity over expensive equipment. He faces real constraints, from limited kit to a degree of cultural resistance to preventive sport in his own neighbourhood, yet he keeps betting on awareness to convince people that physical activity is vital.
