Toucountouna is a commune in the Atacora Department covering 1,114 km². Located 25 km from the departmental capital and 566 km from Cotonou, it is bordered by the communes of Tanguiéta, Boukombé, Natitingou and Kouandé. Its population stands at 39,779 inhabitants (2024). The main languages spoken there are Naténi, Waama and Ditamari; a diversity of religious practices (local traditions, Christianity and Islam) coexist in the area.

In this locality, one phenomenon is particularly notable: migration. As a community actor in the area, Télesphore Nassikou SÉKOU provides Dialogue Migration with an analysis of migration dynamics in Toucountouna. He describes the realities of the phenomenon, its causes, its strengths and its consequences. He also lifts a veil in order to humanise the phenomenon.
