According to a statement from the national gendarmerie (the armed police force), more than 400 individuals suspected of attempting irregular migration have been arrested in Senegal. During a night patrol on the beach at Mbodiène, in the department of Mbour, (western Thiès region), the Joal territorial brigade apprehended 59 new migration aspirants, including 16 girls. This figure adds to the already 374 individuals arrested between March 14 and 16, 2025, by the gendarmerie, primarily between Mbour and Fatick.

The individuals arrested are from across the sub-region, including Guinea, The Gambia, Côte d’Ivoire and Sierra Leone. The gendarmerie has also announced the arrest of seven organizers of such migration projects, as well as the seizure of significant logistical resources.
