In an interview with the Senegalese newspaper Le Soleil, Jean-Marc Pisani, the European Union Ambassador to Senegal, discussed the current state of EU-Senegal cooperation and addressed the sensitive topic of visas, a prominent issue in public discourse.

Responding to Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko’s proposal to implement visa reciprocity, Pisani noted that the matter is under consideration at the European level. “It’s an issue that we are taking seriously at the European level,” he stated. Seeking to counter some negative perceptions, Pisani pointed to concrete data: “Between 2008 and 2023, the number of Senegalese granted residence permits in Europe increased from 150,000 to over 300,000.”
