Togo, a fast-growing nation in West Africa, is currently asserting itself as a facilitator in the area of international mobility. As a result of bold reforms in visa delivery, the country is attracting a growing number of foreign investors, tourists and professionals. This dynamic is part of a strategic vision driven by the Togolese authorities to make the country more attractive and foster economic development.

Once regarded as a hindrance to international trade, obtaining a Togolese visa is now a streamlined process. Today, the digitalisation and simplification of visa procedures has enabled travellers to obtain their visas effortlessly, both online and on arrival. This new policy is promoting seamless mobility and encouraging economic and cultural exchanges.

In 2023, Togo issued 101 600 visas, accounting for around 6.7% of the total number of people entering the country, estimated at 1.52 million. This figure is on a steady rise and reflects the country’s determination to establish itself as a major logistical and financial hub in West Africa. The Togolese National Assembly’s Study Report included in the 2025 Financial Bill, sets ambitious targets: 120,000 visas for 2024, 135,000 for 2025, 150,000 for 2026 and 170,000 for 2027.

Togo, an important economic and migration driver

Easing the conditions of entry into Togo is not about tourism alone. It also plays a key role in economic development, facilitating investments and trade exchange. The influx of new talents and foreign entrepreneurs is set to boost the transfer of skills, job creation and a buoyant private sector.

This policy also has an impact on regional and international migration. By opening its doors to skilled workers and foreign entrepreneurs, Togo is indeed attracting professionals to help develop key sectors such as industry, trade, logistics, digitalisation and finance. This new attraction may also have a positive impact on the emigration of young Togolese talent, by providing them with local opportunities.

An enhanced economic and cultural diplomacy

In recognition of the fact that international mobility is a catalyst for growth, the Togolese government now has a more active economic and cultural visa policy. The organisation of international forums, the signing of strategic partnerships and the showcasing of the country’s assets at major world events are among the strategies being implemented in maximising investment and attracting tourism.

In addition, Togo’s tourism is booming. Nearly one million visitors visited the country in 2022, demonstrating the positive impact of these reforms. By welcoming more visitors and investors, the country benefits from a significant financial outpouring, directly boosting infrastructure, local trade and the hotel and other related sectors.

Progressing towards an inclusive and sustainable migration policy

While Togo encourages the arrival of foreigners, it must also ensure the effective management of migratory flows in order to guarantee a socio-economic balance. Closer cooperation with the immigration authorities will allow for more effective monitoring and continuous improvement of procedures. In addition, the introduction of integration programmes for new arrivals will help to promote harmonious co-existence and the exchange of know-how.

Togo’s open visa policy is a bold and decisive step forward for the country. It paves the way for greater economic dynamism, balanced migration opportunities and greater international recognition. In a world where mobility is a strategic advantage, Togo has indeed positioned itself as a key player in regional cooperation and sustainable development.
